About us

Together with 9,000 colleagues, we are working on and investing in the largest industrial transition in the Netherlands. We are going to make green steel by accelerating the switch to hydrogen. In doing so, we are changing the heart of our production process. At the same time, we are taking major steps towards a cleaner IJmond region. We are going for green steel. Tata Steel wants to make steel production more sustainable. It is clear: the future of our steel production will be CO2 neutral and we are doing everything we can to make this happen as soon as possible. We are switching to hydrogen at an accelerated pace. This will allow us to produce green steel by 2030, 10 years ahead of schedule, and give a huge boost to the hydrogen economy.

We are convinced that going down the hydrogen route is the quickest and best way to realise our ambition and the most optimal option for the environment. Roland Berger’s independent study shows that Tata Steel’s ambition to make steel with hydrogen by 2030 is achievable.

Tata Steel aims to be CO2 neutral by 2045 and sees green steel as the steel of the future: for sustainable construction, sustainable transport, sustainable energy generation and in sustainable products we surround ourselves with every day.
