Sylvo Thijsen is Chief Executive (since 2013) at Staatsbosbeheer, the management and conservation company of the Dutch government, owning 265.000ha of natural resources (national parks, forests, landscapes, cultural heritage).

Before, he was a Board Member at the (former)Amsterdam  listed engineering company Grontmij NV from 2001 to March 2012, of which nearly 9 years as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board. During his career at Grontmij (1984-2012) he has been involved in a variety of rural/urban/infrastructural development projects as well as in the clean tech sector (water/waste/energy) in many countries. Sylvo Thijsen holds a Master degree in Agricultural Engineering (Landscape Architecture and Land Use Planning at Wageningen University and Research) and is trained in management and governance at IMD (Lausanne) LBS (London) and is an INSEAD certified Director.

He is member of several Councils and Boards of organizations and institutions, currently holding positions at: Environmental Sciences Group of Wageningen University and Research(WUR), ATKB (environmental consultancy), Kuiper Compagnons (planners and architects), VBNE(association of  owners of forests and natural areas) and ‘Keukenhof’ (international flower exhibition).
