Kirsten is CEO of WWF Netherlands, part of the world’s largest international conservation organization. In this position she is also a member of the WWF Global Network Executive Team. She has been with WWF for 15 years in various international leadership positions on global conservation issues, and has been WWF Netherlands Chief Conservation Officer several years prior to becoming CEO. She has held several board positions, such as the Wildlife Justice Commission, and is currently member of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), of the Advisory Board of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) and of the Advisory Board of University College Van Hall Larenstein. Kirsten holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences with the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and a Masters in International Economics with the University of Maastricht. Prior to WWF she spent several years in Kenya and Malawi, conducting research on the economic values of wetlands. Kirsten grew up in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.
