Gerard Timmer (52) is Director-General of the NOS, the organization responsible for providing independent and reliable coverage of news, sports and (inter)national events within the Dutch public broadcasting system. Timmer was appointed in 2018. A new chapter in a media career that he started out as cameraman. In 1997, together with Bart de Graaff, Timmer founded a new public broadcasting organization, BNN, which he lead until 2005. After a brief stint at commercial broadcaster SBS, Timmer became the director of television at the NPO, the umbrella administrative body of the public broadcasting system in the Netherlands. Before his appointment at the NOS, Timmer was Director-General of another public broadcaster: BNNVARA.
