Gerard Timmer


“I dare you to be the director of your own career”

Gerard Timmer started out his broadcasting career as a cameraman. In 1997 he co-founded BNN, the first public broadcasting organization in the Netherlands that specifically targeted the teenage and young adult audiences. After a brief stint with commercial television station SBS, Gerard Timmer returned to public broadcasting as television director of the umbrella organization NPO. In 2014 he became chairman of BNNVARA, the result of a merger between BNN and VARA. Since May 1 2018 he heads the NOS, within the NPO responsible for broadcasting news, sports and (national and international) events on television, radio, internet, teletext and Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube.
